Hello fans, friends, minions and minionettes I present to you yet another interesting Episode of creative emerging music from artists around the world.

The mark of achievement in our indie music world can appear in many forms. Increased download music sales, a thousand more fans on profile pages, sold out shows and awards of recognition from our peers

As talented musicians we strive for excellence in what we love to do - make music. We have all been there, hours upon hours getting the sound and vocals the way we perceive the idea in our mind. It takes hard work and dedication.

 Aoede

      Now imagine that workload attached to the daily struggle of living with a life threatening condition. Being awarded an achievement for your musical efforts can only serve as positive empowerment against any adversities in life.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the winner of ‘Artists in Music’s’ - Best Folk-Acoustic Artist & Album of the Year for 2012

     This is Aoede and her song Fairy Tale Love

SONG - Fairy Tale Love

  AOEDE is the beautiful and talented singer-songwriter Lisa Sniderman. Fairy Tale Love is from her album entitled “Affair With The Muse”. This album along with the 2008 “Push and Pull”  and her EP - Ear Candy can be found on iTunes, Amazon.com, CD Baby and retail outlets. Bookmark her iTunes page as a new Album “Skeletons of The Muse” is due out in April 2012.

  AOEDE has been described as compelling pop for your heart by a singer/ songwriter with an enchantingly quirky soprano voice-for fans of Ingrid Michaelson, Feist, Regina Spektor, Lily Allen.

  AOEDE has done a great job marketing her music on the internet. Visit her website for more information about this emerging music artist from San Francisco, California. Lots of cool merch for sale on the official website. And don’t forget to “Ask The Muse” then visit her uTube page for her answers.

  Note to other emerging music artists, notice the attention to detail AOEDE has used with her promotion photos and album art. Great music deserves awesome visual presentation.

Grab your heavy winter coats kids we are heading north to about  63 degrees latitude just below the Arctic Circle to the Norwegian city of Trondheim. Stay close now, follow me down the street we are heading to Martin’s basement to check out Dandy Distorted and their song “Superficial, Shallow and Stuck on Repeat”.

   SONG - Superficial, Shallow and Stuck on Repeat

     Dandy Distorted is the product of a wild and wet jam in Martin's basement. With their catchy melodies, juicy riffs and colorful attitude they set out to spread their music around   the world.

     I love the interwoven musical web these guys create with this tune. It’s like swinging from 80’s power pop to classic rock riffs. Great timing changes in the song with punchy vocals. It’s hard to believe that you are hearing just two guys, Jon-Anders and Martin.

     After a lot of excellent feedback on their first demo-release Dandy Distorted decided to enter the studio to record their first professional release, due January 2012. Most of DD's time is now dedicated to rehearsing and promoting. We are still searching for a Label to sign and work with!

     Visit Dandy Distorted on Facebook, Reverbnation, Twitter and read their Blog Page.  Rest assured that King Minion will let you know when the new album is finished.

Mini Topic - Who is Listening To You?

Ever wonder who is listening to your music?  Demographics are a wonderful tool marketing your band. One of the easiest ways to locate your fan base is through a Blog page or web site. Frankly I would use a Blog first as it keeps your fans up to date on the band and it is easy to maintain. You can review stats and see your fan locations.

In just six episodes this podcast is worldwide and your music can do the same. If you are hampered by computers or lack a promotion team I suggest checking out Blogger.com.  It’s easy and no they did not pay me to say that.

=======================================

I met our next guest artists on Reverbnation. They share the same desire of collaboration with other music artists creating wonderful via internet recordings. Di and Sven work together and work on separate music projects. They are life partners and Sven has told me how much they inspire each others songwriting.

After listening to many of their songs I imagine that every time Di and Sven look into each others eyes a new song is born. I think that’s cool to have a creative synergy in life and in music.

From Hobart, Tasmania this is Di & Sven and “Silken Ropes”

SONG - Silken Ropes

  Ok, I am replacing my Enigma CD’s for Di & Sven mp3’s. The King will have to try their music with candles and incense on my next date with the Queen of Urmandu.

     Di & Sven have some great songs on their Reverbnation page. I will post links to other site pages they have and I will be featuring them again together and solo in future podcasts.

  They have great videos on RN. Find them on MySpace and Facebook.

A few years ago I had a conversation about music with two young ladies. They told me that they felt honored when someone said ‘hey your band sounds just like, -' insert famous band name here'- .“Music is all about interpretation”, said Tegan. “Yeah and passion”, said Sara.

    Thanks ladies no truer words spoken about music.

From Copenhagen, Demark have a listen to Lilac’s Daughter and her song “Bitter & Scared”.

SONG - Bitter & Scared

  The little mermaid sits on a rock in Copenhagen harbor, waves washing the stone upon which she sits. The musical mermaid of Copenhagen sings by the seashore,  her songs echo in your heart and touch the emotions of your mind - that is the beauty of  Lilac’s Daughter.

      At the age of sixteen Sif Jacobsen (better known as Lilac’s Daughter) from Copenhagen, Denmark decided to pick up the spanish guitar her father had left her. She quickly started learning how to sing, play and write songs on guitar.

           That soon evolved into writing her own original material, though only for her self. For years playing music was nothing but a hobby that she kept personal and intimate. After years of songs and writing she finally decided to explore the options of playing live for a crowd, for someone who could listen.

She found her first step a small one, a safe one some could say but for Lilac's Daughter that was just the beginning, playing a open mic night. This took her across the world which led to playing open mic's in Portland, Oregon where she met Steve Huber, who produced on her recordings and first EP in February 2011.

Lilac’s Daughter can be found on Facebook, MySpace and Reverbnation. Song downloads are available on her page and hey share her beautiful songs on social media with your friends. I am looking forward to hearing an album in the future. Please wish Lilac’s Daughter luck on the Hard Rock Rising competition.

 Tips For Emerging Bands and Musicians

Topic-   Video Albums

  So what is the future of music? We are the future, the multi-genre indie musician. While the organized music industry floats towards the drain plug (because of greed) it is the indie musicians who will set the next real trends and push quality music to new artistic levels.

Here are some ideas - The Video Album

  Anyone remember The Beatles Movie - Help!  Some say it was one of the first type of music videos. Wrong - It was a Video album. Ok who else did this humm ah Prince did it with Purple Rain. Album songs set into a script made into a movie.

It’s not that difficult to produce. With all this high tech computer knowledge around you don’t need Martin Scorsese just cameras that shoot video and hey ya where’s that geek friend of the band hey buddy!

video

              Ok kids, if you can write songs with stories YOU can write a script for a Video Album. Here’s a secret the average typed page is about two minutes of video time. Songs will take up hum, forty minutes so you need twenty minutes of dialogue that’s ten pages. Easy piece of cake now start writing and link the story into the songs.

  You don’t need a big budget just someone in charge to co-ordinate hey in Hollywood that’s a director. Hold a party, invite friends and you got your extras. Are you seeing where I am going with this idea.

       Remember King Minion has faith in YOU. Musicians are creative and talented the same DNA that film people possess. Stop laughing and give it a try. I expect to see many Video Albums this year from your Bands.

  For those who are timid try a Video EP - 15 Minute short film using three songs. Less of a script to write. Ok think about it!

SONG - Mountainside
That was the song “Mountainside” by Kevin Looney, he’s from Burdine, Kentucky in the USA. Kevin’s straight ahead Country/Rock/Pop guitar style holds true to his biography.
Kevin is a former coal miner, he likes to fish and hunt, but his real love is music. He’s into the Hit Men of Music Row, bass boats and 4-wheeling. Kevin has played music his whole life but never recorded till 2010, spends all his time recording and starting to do some mixing.
All Kevin’s songs are demos and are works in progress. Kevin thanks his friends for pushing him to present his songs. From Kevin- “I have some great fans, they keep me hanging in there. Thanks, you know who you are!”
Yes Kevin we hear your great tunes. Did you say works in progress??? Yikes the songs are already so awesome. I can’t wait to hear more great rock cured in the Appalachian mountains.
Kevin can be found on Reverbnation (over 23,000 fans), Twitter and Facebook.

  We travel back to the United Kingdom touching down at the city of Reading. Look I can see a performing Arts school. The students are on stage dancing and choreography are matched in sequence to wonderful music.
Great ideas start somewhere, from her 2011 Album release here is Khamsina and her song “Dreaming Ivy”.
SONG - Dreaming Ivy

     Singer-songwriter, Khamsina, is eighteen year old Stevie Fitchett who writes, records and self-produces all her own work. Currently a classics undergraduate student, she lives on the Berkshire/Oxfordshire border in the UK.

Recently Khamsina has been working on a conceptual project, 'The Conductor'. It's based on a gothic film script by Reading University film student Emma Parrish. It's 48'17" which makes it the longest single she has ever done and is priced at only £1.29 or $1.99 on iTunes!!!!!

‘The Conductor’ was written earlier this year, just after the Christmas break during a period of a few weeks. Khamsina hopes to have a crack at trying to transfer this production to the stage as a contemporary dance show.
Khamsina, I think we are witnessing and hearing a new creative talent, part Kate Bush and part Siouxsie Sioux. Check out her website, Reverbnation page, Twitter, Facebook, Blog page, and iTunes to purchase all her great music.

LINKS of Interest

     We are going to continue with more music but I would like to point out two very good blog posts I found on the Tunecore website.
First link talks about songwriter royalties.
Second link is about Apple’s imatch royalty project

  I am a bit suspicious on the imatch news. If I wrote a song today called, ‘She Loves You’ I would bet the royalties would shoot straight to The Beatles. Then again using the artist name of Les Beat might be an issue?

King Minion Music Podcast - Triple Shot

Sills & Smith

SONG - High Tide

      The first song ‘High Tide” by Sills & Smith - I just love the ‘cure sound’ on the guitars. Sills and Smith have  a new Album coming out in March  so go to their page and find out more and listen to six new songs.

=================================================

The Fishcakes

SONG - Bullshit Popstars

      The second song was my power-pop  rockin’ friends -The Fishcakes and their tune ‘Bullshit Popstars’. I hear so many influences in their music. Next time I’m flying Virgin Airlines and Paul Weller is sitting beside me I’m gonna slip The Fishcakes songs onto his iPod. New album coming soon.

James Ferris Group

SONG - Her Deep Love

      The third song was a very rare never before released song by The James Ferris Group. It is a pre mix version of ‘Her Deep Love’. One of three songs that were the last tunes James was working on before he passed away. Thanks Patty for sending it to me.

==================================================

Fetal Zombie

Song - Lament feat Bobbi Berracah

  From Los Angeles, California, that was Fetal Zombie and the song ‘Lament’ featuring vocals by Bobbi Berracah. I recommend this song be played in a darkened room with one candle burning. Some song are just made for emotions and moods.

  Fetal Zombie is a Metal Band that enlists the talents of the top studio musicians in LA. Jeff Kimpland, Bobbi Berracah, Lori Ann Day, Ronald Seaman, Chris Eschborn, Michael Sena, Dirk Verbeuren, Debra Beach, Ricky Click, Jason Galbraith and Josh Rossman.

  Fetal Zombie is on Reverbnation, Facebook, Twitter and their music is available on many music download sites including iTunes.  This band is #1 on the Reverbnation charts for Metal in LA and # 35 in Metal globally. They are in the big leagues where fans number two to three hundred thousand.

=======================================

  It has been another great show with creative musicians from around the world and just down your street. And heads up people I am planning a show or two to spotlight bands and musicians from Australia. So put the word out to your friends in bands.

  Not to be out done I am planing other shows with themes - attention Classical Musicians that means you too, and the Jazz Artists. I like to celebrate the diversity of the multi-genre indie musician.

  Remember as always you can submit music and comments to

  I have noticed listeners leaving comments on my Blog site and that is awesome. Conversation helps us all on the net.

===============================================

  I fell in love with the music of our final guest when seeking artists for episode three. I was persistent with emails and messages because great music deserves to be shared and heard by a wide audience.
  Hetty Lane is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Hetty's main styles consist of modern folk / modern country / acoustic, she is currently busy working on her debut album 'Noone Knows', which she is excited about and looking forward to promoting in the near future.
  Visit Hetty Lane on her website, Reverbnation, Facebook and Myspace. Share the music on social media, sign up for her mailing list and be the first to experience her new album.
  There is a hint of Gaelic in her folk songs, stalwart and firmly rooted in the rock yet on a clear day in North America if you look out toward the east coast Atlantic Ocean, place a hand to your ear and upon the wind you will hear Hetty Lane.
       It has been a “Lovely Day”  thanks to all artists today the King will see you next week.

Song - Lovely Day
