Stirling
Well welcome fans and friends to Episode 5 of the King Minion Music Podcast. Today we will be leaping from one end of the globe to the other in search of new emerging creative musicians.
Sometimes we associate certain places of the world with a particular music style. This is not always the fact however traditional music in one part of the world can influence the interpretation of modern popular rock songs.
Case in point is our first song today. All the way from the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago the band is called jointpop. The song is Monday Morning Love Situation.
SONG - Monday Morning Love Situation
Monday Morning Love Situation by jointpop. Yes the King has had a few of them over the years.
Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, jointpop is Gary, Phil, Dion, Jerome and Damon.
Their music has been described as ‘tough n ready’ renegade rock n roll. jointpop has two very solid albums under their belt - January Transfer Window and The Longest kiss Goodnight, both available on iTunes.
Previous UK tours in 2006, 2008 and 2011 have added to jointpop’s surging popularity in England and Europe with airplay on BBC Radio.
I have know Gary for a few years now. We met on MySpace and I had to buy their first CD. Be it known from King Minion, if you buy either CD or download albums of jointpop you are getting your musical money’s worth of talent and exceptional songwriting.
jointpop is looking for touring opportunities in 2012 and 2013 so if you are a concert/festival promoter looking for a great high energy band contact them on their website or contact me for details. jointpop yet another band I would love to see and hear at SxSW.
Like jointpop on Facebook. I assure the fans that you will hear more jointpop on future King Minion Music Podcast Episodes.

I’m looking down at your feet. Do you have your red magic slippers on? Ok now take hold of the King’s robe (mind the ermine now) as we skip across the atmosphere and head towards Australia.
Close your eyes and repeat after me, ‘There’s no place like Melbourne, there’s no place like Melbourne, there’s no place like Melbourne.’
Close your eyes and repeat after me, ‘There’s no place like Melbourne, there’s no place like Melbourne, there’s no place like Melbourne.’

SONG - Illuminati Smile
The door to the kingdom is opened with eighty eight keys. Wading through the carnage of twisted compositions we arrive at the point of Six Strings and Chords De Vocale. Over in the corner hanging by a thread, are the remnants of songs past and the lingering seeds of new inspirations sprouting from their remains.
Amid the dark depths and mire of Musicarnia emerge three soulful artists brandishing the name carried from generations gone by. From the hills of Scotland to the French Alps and finally resting on the shores of Australia come Stirling. The ground moves in Victoria, it's no earthquake – Lisa, Alan and Matt have arrived!!!
From Melbourne, Australia, that was the group Stirling and their song Illuminati Smile. A great song that pulls the listener into a crescendo of climatic themes. I love the ebb and flow of the songs’ intensity.
Stirling are a Rock/ Alternative band from Melbourne, Australia, that have been playing live since 2003 comprising Lisa (vox), Alan (keys/production) and Matt (Drums). All are members of the one family, Alan having played many years with numerous top bands within the country. Stirling are currently working hard in the studio finishing off the “Writing’s on the Wall” album.
In summary their music can be described as:
Dark, wide, Left side but above all else original
Dark, wide, Left side but above all else original
Stirling is very popular on Reverbnation with fans but I do know that they work extremely hard on the marketing aspect of their band and the stats are proof of their collective efforts. Check them out on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other links on those pages.
King Minion looks forward to Stirlings new album. I will be playing more of Stirling on my Only OZ Bands Episode coming up in a few weeks.

SONG - Shoe Shop
YES that was Tyrone Schulace and His Pals with the creative song “Shoe Shop”. Honestly I am not making this up. Only from the brilliance of true organic Brit-Pop will you find such original songs and wit-laden lyrics to satisfy your innermost giggle demons.
Tyrone Schulace and His Pals serve up tasty tunes with a wonderful garnish of professional sound production. The three songs they have up for listen on Reverbnation and download sales on iTunes are all awesome in the same vein as Shoe Shop.
Tyrone et al hail from Turo, in the UK and we hope to hear more creative content from them in the future.
I do know a secret about Tyrone Schulace. He and His Pals conduct musical collaboration projects with other Reverbnation Artists across the web and around the world. It’s not a big secret. In fact I admire emerging musicians that reach out to share the creative music hegemony.

SONG - Kiss Master
That was the song “Kiss Master” by Kloudworks from Dusseldorf, Germany. Kloudworks is a collaboration between kappi & Lace. Other songs add other artists like Joe, and Odette. Check out their Reverbnation page and their digital album is for sale on iTunes. On the podcast I stated Kloudworks with a "C" I am sorry for the mistake.
Original tunes with a creative approach headed up by guitarist kappi. Kloudworks is number 2 on the Reverbnation “alternative “ charts for Dusseldorf. When you are on their page check out the Ships of Gold project where kappi has an active role. Another innovative idea from Germany.

SONG - Dancing
If you like your Country music hot and steamy then Abby Ray is the gal for you. "Dancing" is one of her recent songs.
Abby released a digital album in 2010 entitled “The Naked Truth” and is available on CD Baby. The song I played is from her latest release Blue Ray where she collaborated with boyfriend Cory Blue Hillman.
I was researching information about Abby Ray and found out that her live shows have become legendary in her home of Bowling Green, Ohio. Abby is making her sound heard in Nashville and her punchy country rock style is sure top turn heads.
I will post links on the blog to her artist website, facebook and reverbnation pages. Check her Reverbnation page for upcoming concerts in your area.

I received an email earlier this week and at first glance thought it was from New Orleans. Much to my surprise is was from my own back yard of Victoria, B.C. Canada.
I have alway known that Victoria has a very vibrant “Folk Music Scene”. If you ever make it to Victoria, stay until Sunday night and visit Norway House on Hillside Avenue. You will be treated to some of the best Folk around.
So how does one go beyond or deeper than folk? Well that is what you call “Roots” music. Great lyrical stories, usually a tragedy and minimal overdubbing with acoustic instruments. Allow me to introduce you to the
SONG - Cécile
Swamp Music Players is a volunteer group of local stars and musical personalities with a love for Blues, Swamp Pop, Roots Rock, New Orleans RnB and Southern Rock.
Swamp Music Players are a bit of a mysterious bunch of gonzo characters but they often like to perform for charity, support local businesses and artists.
They donated to the local Victoria "Mustard Seed" food bank and also hold benefits for the Ascoderu Development society a charity from the Congo incorporated in Canada.

Tips For Emerging Bands and Musicians
Copyrights
Let me be the first to say, I do not know everything about Copyrights but I try to keep informed on how the process works. This should be a rule for all musicians because the particulars with Copyrights changes from country to country. There are standards to the world Copyright agreements.
My hope on these tips is that YOU the artist/musician will take some time and follow up on my initial discussion and thereby helping you and your band through music business enlightenment.
Welcome to the music business world where everyone wants a piece of you - a piece of you where they can make money. BE Aware and tread carefully. Any A&R type company that pretends to copyright your songs, push them in front of every famous record executive etc and wants you to pay them for this service - Just say NO.
Do some research on the net, your country’s government website is the best. Look for copyright information. Yes odd to trust your government but in this case it’s the safe starting place.
In countries like Canada, we have SOCAN, in the United States they have ASCAP, BMI and in the UK it is called PRS. These guys are trust worthy and will register/date/assign codes for your music creation. This is the important part. Getting the date of creation registered.
Remember your band team I talked about. Seek out someone who can read legal contracts. Regular lawyers are fine but remember entertainment lawyers are much more fluid with these issues.
I won’t drag out about Copyrights because if I do you creative souls will give up your musical pursuits because of this bureaucratic maze in the business world. Really just insure you have your songs logged and registered. Normally it’s free. Association membership is a great idea for networking and being in the know about music in your country.
This is the King just trying to give you some advice and help along the way. I will post links on the companion blog page

The Mad Pride' is a reference to the mass movement known as 'Mad Pride'. "Mad Pride activists seek to re-educate the general public on such subjects as the causes of mental disorders, the experiences of those using the mental health system, and the global suicide pandemic." This is Mad Pride.
SONG - The River
I found this information on his Reverbnation page and thought that I could not do a better overview than this:
Combining 60s psychedelia, folk noir, post-rock, neoclassical and darkwave, The Mad Pride has been described as haunting and ominous like Syd Barrett and David Bowie collaborating on a Tim Burton film soundtrack.
Comparisons are often made to Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Erik Satie, Opeth, Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen. It is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Rowan Galagher.
Comparisons are often made to Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Erik Satie, Opeth, Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen. It is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Rowan Galagher.
During 2009 & 2010 Rowan released 3 original albums in which he moved seamlessly from avant-garde psych-folk experimentation to neoclassical soundscapes and beyond. His DIY ethic motivated him to play the majority of the instruments himself and record them alone in his Wollongong based apartment.
With an uncompromising commitment to emotional authenticity and a wider goal of positive social change, Rowan is driven to make honest and progressive music. He is constantly pushing the boundaries of conventional genres and seeks to forge a new platform in the contemporary musical landscape.
It would appear that he is succeeding at this as, aside from the aforementioned artists, Rowan's music has also been compared to Jacques Brel, Mr Bungle, Danny Elfman, Jeff Martin, Muse and David Sylvian.

There are music downloads on Reverbnation and Bandcamp. Visit the Mad Pride website, on MySpace and like them on Facebook. Watch his videos on uTube. He is another Australian (crafty people down there eh) and a credit to his creative musical pursuit.

Remember you can always email me for song submissions and just general feedback on the show.
SONG - No Fighting In The War Room
Blake Moore plays all the instruments himself including the Baglama and the Sanshin. Yes even I had to look these up on Wikipedia. Great songs that set real mood overtones. If any of you listeners out there are budding indie film makers, then check out Kitchen Blake’s songs. I can see a niche’ where his music could walk hand in hand with Oscar.
Visit Kitchen Blake on Reverbnation and Facebook.
